Об издательстве

Издательство «Ace Books» было основано в 1952 году в Нью-Йорке, США (New York City) Аароном А. Вином (Aaron A. Wyn). Изначально специализировалось на публикации книг в жанре тайн и вестерна, затем научной фантастики и фэнтези, документальной прозы, готического, любовного романа и новеллизаций фильмов.

«Ace» наряду с «Ballantine Books», был одним из ведущих издателей научной фантастики в первые десятилетия своего существования. Однако после смерти владельца А. Вина в 1967 году, судьба компании начала меняться. Два известных редактора Дональд А. Уолхейм (Donald A. Wollheim) и Терри Карр (Terry Carr), уволились в 1971 году и в 1972 издательство «Асe» был продано компании «Гроссет и Данлеп» (Grosset & Dunlap).

Несмотря на финансовые трудности, «Ace» успешно выпустило специальную серию (Ace Science Fiction Specials series), под редакцией Т. Карра. Дальнейшие слияния и изменения привели к тому, что компания стала частью «Berkley Books». Позже книги издавались под маркой «Roc Books», «Penguin Group», не теряя тем не менeе своей самобытности.

На данный момент главным редактором является Джинжер Бьюкенен (Ginjer Buchanan).
