Основано в июне 1961 г. Ирвином Штейном (Irwin Stein) и Уолтером Зачериусом (Walter Zacharius).

Выпускало книги по многим направлениям — научная фантастика, героическое фэнтези, детективы, классические романы и др.

Многие иллюстрации для обложек «Lancer Books» принадлежат кисти Фрэнка Фрезетты (Frank Frazetta).

Издательство обанкротилось в 1973 г.
